The municipality of Tegueste has inaugurated a new 36,284-euro Civil Protection facility designed to streamline emergency coordination, improve response times, and serve as a community training and shelter hub.

Tegueste has officially opened its new Civil Protection facilities, marking a significant step forward in how the municipality manages emergencies. According to the local council, the new center provides staff with a modern workspace while streamlining how local resources are organized to improve response times.

The project cost 36,284.75 euros, funded entirely by the municipality. Located at 56 El Casino Street, the building is strategically positioned near the Volunteer Fire Department and the Local Police headquarters. Mayor Norberto Padilla and Island Director of Emergencies Iván Martín noted that this proximity is key to helping different security teams work together more effectively and respond to incidents faster.

Beyond improving operations, the center aims to support the professional development of local volunteers. Their role has become increasingly important under national laws that emphasize the value of citizen participation in emergency management. The council designed the new space to serve two main purposes: acting as a logistical hub for coordinating crises and serving as a center for public training and awareness.

The facility is also versatile enough to function as a temporary shelter during disasters, helping to make the municipality more resilient. With this investment, the local government is moving toward a public safety model that focuses on prevention and community education, rather than just surveillance.
