Tegueste Launches ‘Tapea con Vino’ to Boost Local Gastronomy and Wine Industry
The Tegueste City Council has launched "Tapea con Vino Tegueste," a two-week gastronomic event running from April 6 to April 20 that pairs local wines with regional cuisine to boost the island's economy and promote sustainable tourism.
Tenerife is doubling down on its commitment to local goods and the island’s wine industry. The Tegueste City Council has announced the first edition of "Tapea con Vino Tegueste," an event designed to boost the local economy by bringing together the hospitality industry and regional winemakers.
Running from April 6 to April 20, the initiative is backed by the Tenerife Island Council’s Department of Commerce. Eleven local restaurants will feature special food and wine pairings, highlighting "zero-kilometer" dining as a key driver for economic growth. Mayor Norberto Padilla notes that the project is about more than just dining out; it is a way to strengthen the community and promote local identity, in line with the island’s broader sustainability goals.
Maura Martel, head of the Department of Commerce and Local Development, points out that these events directly support the revenue of local small and medium-sized businesses. By focusing on authentic, locally sourced products, Tegueste aims to stand out as a top gastronomic destination for visitors who value quality and transparency.
Event details, including the full list of tapas, wine pairings, and participating restaurants, can be found at www.teguestegastronomico.com and www.tapeaconvino.com. Organizers hope this collaboration between the public and private sectors will become an annual tradition, helping to build a stronger business community and making Tegueste’s native products more competitive in the regional market.
