Tegueste Deploys 200-Strong Security Force for San Marcos Pilgrimage
The Tegueste City Council has mobilized 200 security personnel and coordinated with local transport services to ensure public safety during the upcoming San Marcos Pilgrimage on April 26.
Managing large crowds in rural areas of the Canary Islands is becoming a significant logistical challenge, making careful planning essential for public safety. The Tegueste City Council is currently preparing for the upcoming San Marcos Pilgrimage on April 26, one of the town’s busiest annual events.
During a meeting on March 11, officials outlined a security plan involving approximately 200 professionals. This team will include 90 Civil Guard officers, 26 Local Police officers, 18 members of the Canary Islands Police, and 30 emergency and security personnel. A key part of the operation involves coordinating with the public transport operator, TITSA, to manage traffic and visitor flow in a town that sees its usual routines completely transformed during the festivities.
Mayor Norberto Padilla emphasized that the success of the event relies on smooth cooperation between all involved agencies. Eladia López, head of the Department of Festivities, added that thorough planning is vital to protecting the event’s traditional character while managing the large number of attendees.
Ultimately, this operation aims to ensure public safety and provide a clear response plan for any emergencies. By coordinating across different levels of government, officials hope to keep the celebration safe and orderly without disrupting essential local services.
