Candelaria police have charged a 19-year-old man with drug trafficking after he was caught discarding nearly 100 grams of hashish near a public area.
Safety in public spaces for children is back in the spotlight after a recent police intervention in Tenerife. According to local reports, Candelaria police have charged a 19-year-old man with a public health offense after he was caught with nearly 100 grams of hashish.
The incident occurred on April 6 near Los Sabina Street, highlighting the ongoing efforts of local police to monitor recreational areas. During a routine patrol, officers noticed three young men acting suspiciously. When the officers approached to identify them, one of the men tried to hide a package by throwing it into a nearby planter. Upon inspection, police found 97.43 grams of cannabis resin inside.
Under Article 368 of the Spanish Penal Code, this is classified as a drug trafficking offense. Courts often view the proximity to schools or playgrounds as an aggravating factor, as it poses a risk to minors.
Following the discovery, the young man was taken to the police station to be formally charged. The case has been referred to the Court of Instruction in Güímar, which will now oversee the legal proceedings.
