TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes is hosting a free, interactive workshop titled Everything is a Voice Problem this weekend, inviting the public to engage directly with its archives to challenge traditional methods of collection management.

Institutional archives are currently rethinking how they work, moving away from traditional preservation toward methods that make knowledge more accessible to everyone. This weekend, TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes is hosting a workshop that challenges rigid filing systems by inviting the public to interact directly with its collection.

Titled Everything is a Voice Problem, the project is led by artists Shabely Estévez and Mike Batista. Part of the Onda Corta. Documentation Laboratory program, the initiative encourages participants to do more than just browse; they are invited to physically engage with the documents and reshape their meaning through hands-on experimentation. This approach reflects a modern shift in museum work, viewing archives not as static storage, but as living collections that evolve through the relationship between the reader and the material.

The event takes place this Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Saturday with two sessions: 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The workshop is free and open to the public, though attendees must reserve a spot by emailing ondacorta.tea@gmail.com. By hosting this event, the center aims to show how creators can challenge the standard ways public collections are organized, turning the reader’s perspective into the most important part of the archival experience.
