TEA Hosts Free Architectural Sound Workshop with Gara Hernández
TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes will host a free workshop led by musicologist Gara Hernández, inviting participants to explore architectural sounds and create a building sound map and audiozine.
TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes is hosting a new workshop led by musicologist and sound artist Gara Hernández. This workshop will explore the sounds within architectural spaces, a topic that's gaining interest in both art and academic circles. The organizers say this event is part of a trend to rethink how we perceive sound and interact with our environment.
The workshop is titled "Listening Bodies: The Perceptibility of Sonic Imperceptibility." It suggests we think of sound as a living record, deeply connected to the people who create it and the places it fills. Participants will tour TEA's building to find unique sounds, which they will explore through careful listening and recording.
A main goal of the workshop is for participants to see the museum as a source of sounds and echoes. They will learn to analyze, question, and bring these sounds to life from new listening perspectives. The program also includes creating a "sound map" of the building's different areas, treating the structure itself as something that can be played with to make sound. The workshop will end with everyone creating an "audiozine" together.
This workshop is part of the "Onda Corta. Documentation Laboratory" program. It will take place on a Saturday, in two sessions: from 10 AM to 2 PM and from 4 PM to 8 PM. Participation is free, but you need to register in advance by emailing ondacorta.tea@gmail.com.
