Carlos Tarife, First Deputy Mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, expressed concern about the evolving direction of 'murgas' after Trapaseros' performance with Rosana, advocating for limits to preserve their traditional critical and humorous spirit.

Carlos Tarife, the First Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Public Services in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, has expressed concern about the direction 'murgas' are taking in the city. His comments came particularly after the Trapaseros group's performance in the recent competition final. Tarife stated that while he acknowledges the entertainment value of the show, he believes this trend should not define the future of 'murga' groups in Santa Cruz, emphasizing the need to set limits.

The councillor defended the traditional spirit of 'murgas', which has historically been critical, ironic, and comical. He distinguished between the freedom groups have with their song lyrics and how they present their show. He specifically pointed to Trapaseros' second song, which featured artist Rosana on stage. For Tarife, bringing in well-known figures like Rosana or Efecto Pasillo to a 'murga' performance strays from the groups' original philosophy, which he believes should prioritize criticism and popular humor.

The councillor warned that this trend could lead to extreme situations, such as an international singer like Juan Luis Guerra hypothetically appearing on stage with a 'murga'. From his perspective, this would distort the fundamental purpose of these groups, which are deeply rooted in the tradition of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival.
