Tyendinaga upgrades water mains, saving water equivalent to 40 Olympic pools
A large-scale reconstruction of water supply networks has begun in Takoronte, with plans to replace over 1.5 km of pipes during 2024-2025 to save water and reduce accidents.
The town of Tacoronte has undertaken a major upgrade of its water supply networks. The local authorities, together with Teidagua, the water company, plan to replace more than one and a half kilometers of pipes during 2024-2025.
Why is this necessary? To save over 100,000 cubic meters of water each year! That's like 40 Olympic swimming pools, can you imagine?
Tacoronte has a total of 280 kilometers of water pipes. The repairs will primarily focus on the sections where leaks occur most frequently. The aim is to ensure a stable water supply for all residents.
Last year, 286 meters of pipes were replaced in problematic areas where accidents constantly occurred. This year, they plan to upgrade another 347 meters of the network in areas with the highest recorded number of bursts.
Local councilor Suso Machado says that this project will allow the town to use water more efficiently, reduce losses, and avoid accidents.
The head of Teidagua, Braulio Domínguez, adds that they have a clear plan and are constantly investing in network upgrades. Thanks to water savings, they will be able to use it for other needs, such as agriculture.
In addition to planned works, utility workers respond promptly to accidents. In 2024, 900 meters of pipes have already been replaced, and this year – another 332 meters. This helps to quickly restore water supply and not leave people without water for long.
