Councillor Eduardo Dávila expressed satisfaction as Tacoronte's unemployment reached a 17-year low in November, with 1,832 people unemployed, marking a 3.6% monthly decrease.

Eduardo Dávila, the Councillor for Employment and Local Development, is pleased with the drop in unemployment seen in Tacoronte last November. With 1,832 people unemployed, this is the lowest figure in 17 years for the municipality.

Data from the Canarian Employment Observatory shows a 3.6% decrease from the previous month. This also represents an 8% reduction compared to the same period in the 2024 fiscal year, when 1,991 Tacoronte residents were on unemployment lists.

Currently, women make up 57.97% of the total unemployed, while men account for 42.03%. By age group, unemployment continues to affect those over 45 and without higher education the most. Most of the unemployed are concentrated in the services and construction industries.

Dávila noted that when the current term began, 2,203 people in Tacoronte were unemployed. He stated this shows their efforts have not only stopped job losses but also improved the inherited situation by creating more job opportunities. Many of these, he added, have been supported by the training and advisory services offered by the City Council's Employment and Local Development Agency.

The local government currently runs three active employment and training projects:

  • The Social Employment Plan 2024/2025, which employs 71 people.
  • Sustainable Tacoronte, with 15 professionals working to promote the Local Agenda 2030.
  • "Rural Tacoronte 2025," which involves 2 foremen and 16 agricultural laborers clearing brush and cleaning ravines.

Tacoronte's public policies for employment and citizen training support three key municipal goals:

  • Goal 1.4: Job Creation, through programs for young people and local employment initiatives.
  • Goal 2.1: Lifelong Learning, with training and retraining programs for the working population.
  • Goal 5.5: Innovation and Digital Transformation, offering job training in essential skills, digitalization, and sustainability.

The fourth deputy mayor, who also oversees Finance, Procurement, and Solid Waste, is confident that unemployment will fall even further by the end of 2025, dropping below November's figures. He believes this is an achievable goal thanks to local businesses' hiring efforts and planned hirings for December, which will see new programs launched to tackle unemployment in the city.
