Tacoronte Opposition Demands Urgent Repairs for Unsafe Bridge Near Schools

The political party Somos Tacoronte has demanded urgent safety improvements and a clear reconstruction timeline for a bridge on Teobaldo Power Street, citing risks to students and residents following prolonged delays and inadequate security measures.

Safety in Tacoronte has become a point of political contention after the party Somos Tacoronte raised concerns about the bridge on Teobaldo Power Street. The bridge partially collapsed over a year ago, and the party argues that the current security fencing is inadequate, allowing pedestrians to easily enter an area that should be off-limits.

The opposition is particularly worried because the site is located right next to the IES Óscar Domínguez and the Tacoronte School. They argue that the daily presence of students, families, and teachers near the site creates a significant safety risk. Somos Tacoronte has criticized the municipal government—a coalition of the PSOE, CC, and PP—for failing to properly secure the area and for the delays in reconstruction that are now impacting nearby properties.

Party spokesperson Carlos Medina and councilwoman Sandra Ramos are calling on Mayor Sandra Izquierdo and the head of Urban Planning, Tarsis Morales, to take immediate action. Beyond just strengthening the barriers, they are demanding transparency regarding safety inspections and a clear timeline for the project. The reconstruction has been stalled following the recent cancellation of the contract with the firm originally hired to draft the technical plans.

The local administration is now under pressure to address these infrastructure delays. Under safety and liability regulations, the city council is responsible for ensuring that public spaces do not pose a danger to residents. Somos Tacoronte maintains that public safety must be the top priority, labeling it unacceptable that residents are left with only temporary, precarious barriers while the city resolves its contractual issues.
