Tacoronte Opposition Demands Urgent Recovery Plan for Neglected Municipal Market
The Sí se puede party has urged the Tacoronte government to implement an urgent recovery plan to address the severe neglect and operational paralysis threatening the town's municipal market.
The crisis at the Tacoronte municipal market has returned to the forefront of local politics. The Sí se puede party has warned that the building is falling into disrepair, threatening the future of local businesses. Councilman José Almenara blames the current coalition government (PSOE-CC-PP) for the facility's ongoing operational paralysis.
The opposition describes a site suffering from severe neglect. Key issues include broken escalators, the closure of the terrace and plaza to the public, and poorly maintained restrooms. Furthermore, the presence of abandoned furniture and broken equipment in shared areas has, according to the party, forced most of the market’s vendors to close their doors.
This decline is more than just a maintenance issue; it is a blow to the town’s economy. The loss of the market as a hub for local goods hurts small producers and removes a vital community meeting place. While other towns are working to revitalize their markets as centers for sustainability and responsible shopping, Tacoronte’s market is moving in the opposite direction.
In response, Sí se puede is calling on the government to launch an immediate recovery plan. The party argues that simply fixing the infrastructure is not enough; they are calling for a comprehensive strategy to restore the market’s role as a local economic engine, reverse the signs of neglect, and encourage shuttered stalls to reopen.
