Tacoronte Officials Face Criticism Over Deteriorating Sports Pavilion
The municipal group Sí se puede has criticized the Tacoronte City Council over the deteriorating structural condition and poor hygiene of the local sports pavilion, calling for urgent improvements to maintenance protocols.
Public infrastructure in Tacoronte is back in the political spotlight after the municipal group Sí se puede raised concerns about the state of the local sports pavilion. According to councilor José Luis Almenara, the building is deteriorating, which he argues is negatively affecting the services provided to the community.
These concerns intensified after the pavilion recently hosted a round of the Tenerife Cabildo Games. The high number of athletes and families visiting for the event highlighted several issues that go beyond simple cosmetic wear. Almenara pointed to structural damage, including cracks in the walls, as well as broken sports equipment both inside and outside the facility.
The report also highlights poor hygiene at the venue. Almenara described the presence of cobwebs and accumulated waste during the competition as unacceptable for a public space. These conditions have sparked a broader debate about whether the Tacoronte City Council’s cleaning and maintenance protocols are effective.
The pavilion’s condition reflects a common issue across many Canarian municipalities, where aging sports facilities often suffer from a lack of consistent investment and upkeep. While local authorities are required by law to ensure that public sports spaces are safe and hygienic, Sí se puede claims that, based on resident complaints, these responsibilities are currently being neglected at the Tacoronte site.
