The Takoronte City Council approved a 36% increase in garbage collection fees starting in 2026 to comply with the new waste law, offering discounts for sorting and online payment.

In the city council of Tacoronte, deputies voted for changes to the rules for paying for garbage disposal.

This is necessary for the city to adapt to the new waste law. It requires that garbage disposal services are not loss-making.

For city residents, this will mean that from 2026, the fee for garbage disposal will increase by approximately 36%. That is, instead of 96 euros, they will have to pay 130 euros.

Eduardo Davila, who is responsible for garbage disposal in the city council, explained that they tried to mitigate the consequences of this price increase.

For example, cafes, bars and shops that sort organic waste will be able to receive a 20% discount on payment. And those who pay online will receive a 5% discount.

Also, in 2024, the city council already reduced the property tax by 12% to compensate for the increase in the cost of garbage disposal.

Now, for 30 days, everyone can familiarize themselves with these changes and submit their comments or suggestions. After that, from January 1, 2026, the new rules will take effect.
