The Tacoronte Historical Novel Festival, organised by the Tacoronte City Council's Culture Department and Mayor Sandra Izquierdo, with support from the Cabildo de Tenerife, is holding its second and final weekend. The festival offers a diverse programme for everyone.
From Friday to Sunday, the town will host talks with authors, theatrical performances that critically examine history, and World War II reenactments. There will also be exhibitions focusing on medieval Japan and the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen's birth.
On Friday at 6:30 PM, in the Óscar Domínguez hall, authors will discuss female creators in the early modern period. This will include authors of historical novels and the creators of a comic about Ana Mendoza de la Cerda.
On Saturday at 12:00 PM, a "Historical Vignette Workshop" will be held in the Inocencio Rodríguez hall, led by authors and illustrators.
Also on Saturday at 11:15 AM, in the Óscar Domínguez hall, authors will discuss "Adventures and Historical Novels."
Later on Saturday at 7:00 PM, Luis Zueco will receive the Ciudad de Tacoronte Historical Novel Award for his significant contributions to the genre.
On Sunday at 12:45 PM, in the Óscar Domínguez hall, authors will explore the evolution of historical novels in "Historical Novels: From Prehistory to Our Days."
The festival concludes its talks on Sunday at 12:00 PM in the Óscar Domínguez hall with a discussion on "Historical Novels of the 20th Century," exploring how this period inspires authors.
This weekend also features historical theatre. On Friday at 8:30 PM, "Crimen y Conquista o las amistades de Colón y Beatriz de Bobadilla" will be performed, humorously critiquing the conquest of America. On Saturday at 8:30 PM, "La educada visita" will explore morality through the story of a widow in Nazi-occupied France. Both plays are at the Auditorio Capitol, with free tickets available online.
On Sunday, Tacoronte's streets will transform into a World War II battlefield with two reenactments presented by Asociación Cero Culture and Recon 25. These immersive experiences will feature actors in authentic uniforms and equipment. "Operación Tacoronte" begins at 1:00 PM in Plaza del Cristo, depicting a fictional British mission in 1941. At 5:30 PM, "Día D en Saint-Marcel" will recreate a key battle in France.
Also on Sunday, Plaza del Cristo will host the third Tapas Competition from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, featuring local produce.
The festival's closing gala on Sunday at 7:30 PM at the Auditorio Capitol will announce the winners of the historical short film competition, "Rodando con historia." The gala will also feature a performance by Aborá Femme.
Throughout the festival, three exhibitions are on display at the House of Culture: "The Epic of Feudal Japan," "Jane Austen and Her Time. Words that Portrayed an Era," and "The Inner Journey" by Helena Martín, which can be visited until November 27th.
Finally, "History in Play" continues this Saturday from 11:00 AM and Sunday from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM in the Valerio J. Padrón hall. Adults and children can enjoy role-playing and board games.
