Tacoronte Expands Urban Organic Garden Program to 51 Plots
The Tacoronte City Council has opened applications for 51 organic garden plots, expanding its community initiative to promote local food production and sustainable land management.
Tacoronte is boosting its commitment to local food production. According to the Official Gazette of the Province, the City Council has opened the application process for 51 organic garden plots—a significant increase from the previous 33. This initiative is part of a wider trend across Spain to turn public land into community spaces that promote urban resilience and environmental education.
Managed by the Department of the Primary Sector under Iván Hernández, the program now includes four locations: La Atalaya (20 plots), V Centenario (13 plots), Tagoro (10 plots), and Las Toscas (8 plots). By expanding this network, the council aims to strengthen the community by creating spaces for shared learning and interaction between generations.
Applications are open from August 20 to September 23. Residents over 16, local associations, and public schools are eligible to apply for these free plots. Applications can be submitted in person at the City Council’s General Registry or via their online office.
Beyond growing food, these gardens help teach sustainable land management and responsible consumption. By providing access to urban land, Tacoronte’s City Council hopes to encourage healthier lifestyles and help citizens reconnect with nature, prioritizing the well-being of the community and the efficient use of municipal resources.
