Tacoronte Book Fair Returns With Expanded Program for International Book Day
The Tacoronte Book Fair returns this weekend to celebrate International Book Day with over 70 authors and 50 cultural activities aimed at fostering community engagement and literacy.
The Tacoronte Book Fair returns this weekend, cementing its place as a key cultural event in the Canary Islands. To mark International Book Day, the fair will host over 70 authors across the Plaza del Cristo and the House of Culture. The event highlights the importance of bringing literature to smaller towns, helping to boost the publishing industry and encourage reading in an age dominated by digital media.
Running from Friday through Sunday, the fair features 50 activities for all ages. Friday’s program, organized with the local Youth department, aims to engage new readers with workshops on Japanese calligraphy, illustration, and portraiture, alongside meet-and-greets with authors Clara Duarte and María Gómez. The full schedule, which includes live music, theater, and a dedicated bookstore area, is available on the municipality’s website.
The guest list offers a diverse range of voices. Highlights include Madrid-based author Paul Pen, who will discuss his book El canto de los grillos on Saturday at 5:00 p.m., and Galician writer José Ángel Gómez Iglesias—known as Defreds—who will present his work Mientras duela on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
By combining book signings with creative workshops and entertainment, Tacoronte is following a growing trend in Spanish culture: transforming the traditional book fair from a simple marketplace into a vibrant community space for learning and connection.
