Tenerife's female tennis players debut in the Spanish Table Tennis Super League
The female tennis players from CTM Tabor Arafo, having strengthened their roster with Olympic champion Paula Medina, will start in the Spanish Women's Table Tennis Super League with a match against Hujase Jaén Paraíso Interior.
The female tennis players from CTM Tabor Arafo are starting today in the Super League – the highest table tennis league in Spain for women. Last season was simply fantastic for them, and they deservedly moved up in class.
The first game will take place today at 16:00 Canary time against Hujase Jaén Paraíso Interior. This is an experienced opponent, so our girls from Tenerife will have to show what they are capable of right away.
This year, the team from Arafo has almost completely retained the squad that brought them promotion. And they have also been joined by a star – Colombian Paula Medina, the 2012 Olympic champion. She will add experience and skill to the team. She will be joined by Mafe Perdomo, who greatly helped the team reach the Super League, as well as Lorena Gil and Leti Leidys González.
Fans will have to wait a bit to see the game at home. The first home match will take place on October 24 at 18:00 against Club Deportivo Indiana Games Cliniqas. All home games will be held in the sports hall of the Andrés Orozco College. This will be a new home arena for the team, as their previous hall did not meet the requirements of the federation.
The club's management says that reaching the Super League is a big challenge, both in sports and organizationally. The Super League has much higher requirements for everything than the lower league. "Last year was incredible, and we look forward to this season with great enthusiasm and responsibility," says Richard Díaz, president and coach of the club. "This debut is the result of the efforts of the players, coaches and their families. We hope for the support of the fans to continue to grow and prove that Tenerife can be among the best."
In the Super League, the team will have away games all over the country and games against clubs with larger budgets. Therefore, the season will be very difficult. There are 11 teams in the league, including well-known Spanish clubs such as Cartagena, Son Cladera and Hujase Jaén.
Tabor had an almost perfect last season in the lower league, winning 15 of 18 matches. Now their goal is to gain a foothold in the elite and stay in the Super League. For this, it is very important to play well at home, where the team hopes for the support of the fans, who have already helped them reach the top league.
