Swimmer Rescued After Getting Trapped at San Telmo Beach

A man was rescued at San Telmo beach today after he became trapped in the water and was unable to reach the shore on his own. The incident occurred around 12:00 p.m. in the Penitente area, a spot known for its difficult terrain, which can quickly exhaust swimmers and complicate rescue efforts.

The man began to show signs of severe fatigue after entering the water at a point where exiting is particularly challenging. Local Police officers arrived quickly and used a "OneUp" flotation device to keep him stable while emergency teams were called to the scene.

Lifeguards then performed a technical rescue, bringing the man to safety using the beach’s access stairs. Once back on land, he was handed over to the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) for a medical evaluation.

This incident highlights the importance of close coordination between police and lifeguards in popular swimming areas that carry hidden risks due to their geography. The quick response and effective use of safety equipment were vital in ensuring the man’s safety and preventing a more serious outcome.
