Swim Legends Join Tenerife Sports Summit Ahead of Blue Challenge
Southern Tenerife is set to host a November 7, 2025, discussion featuring elite swimmers, politicians, and business leaders to explore the future of sport and promote the island as a year-round destination, preceding 'The Blue Challenge' Open Water Swim.
Southern Tenerife is preparing for a special discussion event featuring swimming stars, politicians, and business leaders. This gathering is happening before the second 'The Blue Challenge' Open Water Swim.
Spring Hotels, a main partner for the sporting event, is hosting the discussion titled "The Blue Challenge: A space for dialogue on the challenges, values, and future of sport." The goal is to highlight Tenerife as an ideal place for sports training and competitions throughout the year.
The meeting will take place on Thursday, November 7, at 11:00 AM in the Relab Room of the Arona Gran Hotel. An impressive group of speakers will be present, including elite swimmers like legendary open water swimmer David Meca, Olympic and world champion Erika Villaécija, and European champion Laura Roca. Many other important figures from politics, sports, and business will also join them.
The discussion will cover the complexities of elite sports and, importantly, how public and private sectors need to work together to promote sports on the islands. Entry is free until the venue reaches its full capacity.
Miguel Villarroya, CEO of Spring Hotels, stated: "Showcasing Arona's coast with an event of this size is part of our commitment. We want Tenerife to be known as an ideal destination for sports training and competitions all year round, and this swim is a clear example." He added, "The 'Blue Challenge' is more than just a competition; it's a perfect mix of sport, nature, and the drive to overcome challenges."
Two days after the discussion, on Sunday, November 9, 2025, the second 'The Blue Challenge' Open Water Swim will be held. It will start and finish at the well-known Los Cristianos Beach.
This swim is now a regular event on the island's calendar. It challenges swimmers of different abilities with distances of 5000m, 2500m, and 1000m in the Atlantic Ocean. There's also a free Children's Swim, making the event family-friendly and open to everyone.
The Arona City Council and the Cabildo de Tenerife, through their Sports and Tourism departments, are essential partners for the second 'The Blue Challenge' Open Water Swim.
