Police in Arona, Tenerife, have arrested a man suspected of a sexual assault and two violent robberies after witnesses provided crucial photographic and video evidence.

Security in southern Tenerife’s tourist areas is under scrutiny again following the arrest of a man suspected of a sexual assault and two violent robberies in Arona. Police say the breakthrough came after witnesses and victims provided crucial photos and video, which helped officers identify and track down the suspect on the street.

Investigators say the man used excessive force in all three incidents. In the most serious case, near Las Verónicas, he allegedly offered to help a young woman find a lost phone before leading her to a quiet area, where he strangled her to prevent her from fighting back before sexually assaulting her.

The suspect is also linked to two violent robberies in the same area. In one, he attacked an elderly couple, striking them during a struggle to steal a watch. In the other, he grabbed a victim by the neck to snatch a piece of jewelry. Thanks to images captured by bystanders, police were able to build a strong case and arrest the man in the early hours of March 27.

This case highlights the ongoing security challenges in popular tourist destinations, where initiatives like the "Safe Tourism Plan" aim to protect both visitors and locals. Authorities say the quick arrest proves how vital it is for the public to report crimes immediately and for police units to coordinate effectively in busy areas where people are constantly moving through.
