Suroeste Sandwich Route Nears End, Boosting Local Economy
Santa Cruz de Tenerife's "Ruta del Bocadillazo" in the Suroeste district enters its final week, inviting residents to enjoy special sandwiches from 32 local businesses until Sunday, December 21.
The "Ruta del Bocadillazo" in the Suroeste district is in its final week, offering residents and visitors a chance to enjoy special sandwiches from 32 local businesses until this Sunday, December 21.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife Mayor, José Manuel Bermúdez, announced the news after visiting some of the participating spots on Monday. He explained, "We wanted to see for ourselves the success of this initiative. As part of 'Enjoy in the Districts,' it has once again been very well received by both restaurants and the public."
Mayor Bermúdez, joined by Carmen Pérez, CEO of the Development Society, and Javier Rivero, the Suroeste district councilor, toured several establishments, including Bar Sobradillo and Zumería Guarapo 2.
Bermúdez emphasized that the route is achieving its main goal: "We aim to bring life to every street in our city, while also helping to boost the local restaurant industry." He added that "at this time of year, it's crucial to keep creating a positive impact on Santa Cruz's economy."
Carmen Pérez, CEO of the Development Society, encouraged everyone to "take advantage of the last few days of the event." She noted, "Our goal is to encourage people to visit businesses in the Suroeste district, making them popular choices for locals and attracting new customers to the area." Pérez added that "initiatives like this help build our city from its neighborhoods, bringing energy to our streets and supporting the families who open their doors every morning."
The special "bocadillazos" from all 32 participating businesses are available until Sunday, December 21. Pérez explained that it's a special offer costing three euros, with drinks sold separately. This gives customers a chance to discover the creative skills of local food professionals.
Pérez also reminded everyone that voting is still open. Citizens can choose their favorite sandwich through a special website or app. Everyone who votes will automatically be entered into a draw to win a 60-euro gift voucher, which can be spent at any of the participating establishments.
Once the route finishes on December 21, the votes will be counted to decide the winners. The top three businesses will receive a diploma and cash prizes: 200 euros for first place, 150 euros for second, and 100 euros for third. Pérez stated, "These incentives are designed to recognize the hard work of the businesses and encourage them to continue offering quality and creativity."
Javier Rivero, the Suroeste district councilor, highlighted that "the Ruta del Bocadillazo is more than just a sales campaign; it helps bring the community together." He explained, "Bars and cafes have always been important social hubs for us, and this initiative gives us a perfect reason to go out, meet neighbors, and socialize in our public spaces."
Rivero also praised the high quality of food at the participating establishments. He noted that events like this "help showcase the wide variety of food venues in the Suroeste." He concluded, "With this route, we send a clear message: there is talent, creativity, and a top-level food scene here."
