The Supreme Court has ordered the return of Charco de La Arena in Punta del Hidalgo, La Laguna, to public use, concluding a legal battle and mandating the removal of private facilities.

The Supreme Court has ruled that Charco de La Arena in Punta del Hidalgo, La Laguna, must be returned for public use. This decision ends a long legal battle and means a private company can no longer operate in the area, a win for the La Laguna City Council.

The court's final decision requires the private club's facilities to be removed and the natural coastal area to be restored. This ruling is part of a broader effort to protect public land along the coast. These areas often have old agreements that predate the 1988 Coastal Law, which clearly states that public access and use should take priority.

La Laguna's mayor, Luis Yeray GutiƩrrez, praised the decision, calling it a crucial step to give residents of Punta del Hidalgo back their access to the coast. He explained that the "Charco de la Arena Society," which started in the 1960s, operated under old rules that the Supreme Court now says are no longer valid. The mayor added that this action fulfills a promise the city council made to residents to restore the coast environmentally.
