La Laguna's mayor, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, praised the decision, calling it a crucial step to give residents of Punta del Hidalgo back their access to the coast. He explained that the "Charco de la Arena Society," which started in the 1960s, operated under old rules that the Supreme Court now says are no longer valid. The mayor added that this action fulfills a promise the city council made to residents to restore the coast environmentally.
