The Sun Dance Family Sessions at La Laguna's Leal Theater offer a unique weekly experience combining electronic music, free movement, and well-being for families of all ages, fostering connection and joy through dance.

Every Sunday morning in La Laguna, while the town is still waking up, something special happens at the Leal Theater's Chamber Hall. Families of all ages, from tiny babies to grandparents, gather for a unique experience of live music and dancing.

This isn't a regular concert or an art class. It's called the Sun Dance Family Sessions, a project that started in 2016. It combines electronic music, free movement, and well-being, with a simple but powerful goal: to get families dancing together, each in their own style.

The project is run by the Canary Islands Living Arts and Citizenship Laboratory (LAV-C) and involves local dancers and DJs. Over the years, the Sun Dance Family Sessions have become a standout cultural event on the island. What began as an experiment is now a regular feature at the Leal Theater, with over fifty sessions held and around 1,500 people participating.

The sessions are designed to be easy and enjoyable for everyone. They start with gentle warm-ups led by dancers and movement experts to get bodies ready. Then, DJs like Sistha Vibes, Bliss, and Lady Quila play electronic music with rhythms suitable for all ages. The main idea is to let go and have fun. There are no set dance moves or pressure to perform; everyone is free to move however they feel. The dance floor becomes a safe and happy place where kids laugh, people dance freely, hug, sometimes stumble, and share energy and friendship.

Sun Dance Family is more than just an artistic project; it's also seen as a boost for public health. The project's success has allowed it to grow beyond the Leal Theater. Sun Dance Family has been part of other cultural events like Phe Festival, Tenerife Design Week, a children's festival, and MAC Festival, bringing its unique approach to different audiences and venues across the Canary Islands.

The next session is scheduled for Sunday, November 30th, starting at 11:30 AM. Tickets cost five euros, and children get in for free. This upcoming event will feature young rapper Kaly Ninhma and Naty de la Cruz, who will introduce her "Sound Body" concept at the Leal Theater.
