The Civil Guard is investigating a string of suspicious vehicle fires in Güímar, Tenerife, that have left three cars and a backhoe destroyed in recent weeks.

Residents in the Tenerife municipality of Güímar are increasingly concerned following a string of vehicle fires that suggest a potential rise in local vandalism. The Civil Guard is currently investigating a series of incidents that have left three cars completely destroyed in just two weeks.

The most recent fire occurred at dawn yesterday in the Las Bajas area, near the TF-1 highway. An Opel Astra was gutted by flames, forcing emergency services to respond. This incident is strikingly similar to one on April 10, when a Ford Focus was torched in the same area after someone smashed a rear window with a stone. Despite the similarities, authorities noted that as of yesterday afternoon, the owner of the latest vehicle had not yet filed an official complaint.

The issue is not limited to one neighborhood. Last weekend, a Mercedes SUV was destroyed near the town’s former gravel quarries. These events have sparked significant alarm on local social media, adding to a growing list of property crimes in the area. Notably, on February 18, two individuals broke into an excavation company near the local cemetery and set fire to a backhoe, rendering it unusable.

With no arrests made and no clear motive established, the community remains on edge. The Civil Guard is working to determine whether these fires are linked or if they are a series of isolated, yet equally concerning, acts of vandalism.
