Storm Regina Cuts Televisión Canaria Signal in Tenerife
Televisión Canaria's signal was disrupted in northern Tenerife due to a frozen transmission tower and broken radio links caused by strong winds from Storm Regina, which also led to over sixty incidents across the island.
The recent disruption to Televisión Canaria's signal highlights how vulnerable our communication systems are to extreme weather. The regional public broadcaster announced early this morning that its signal was interrupted in northern Tenerife, specifically in the areas between Izaña and Los Realejos.
This temporary outage was caused by a transmission tower in Izaña freezing over and several radio links breaking off. These issues were due to the strong winds from Storm Regina, which is currently hitting the Canary Islands. As a result, many viewers in those areas lost access to the service.
Storm Regina has had a major impact on the Canary Islands, especially Tenerife, where over sixty incidents were reported on Tuesday night. The most common problems included fallen trees and signs, along with power cuts in several parts of the island.
To fix the television signal disruption, the distribution company sent out technical teams all morning. Their goal was to repair the fault and get service back up as quickly as possible. Despite the bad weather, conditions are expected to gradually improve from Wednesday afternoon. Weather warnings will be lifted at 6:00 PM, and rain will ease, mostly affecting the mountain peaks. Thursday's forecast includes light rain, moderate winds, and slightly warmer temperatures.
