Tenerife-born artist St. Pedro reimagines six iconic Hispanic pop hits through a tropical lens in his new EP, Cancionero.

St. Pedro’s new EP, Cancionero, is more than just a collection of covers; it is a deep dive into the pop music of the last twenty years. The Tenerife-born artist has reimagined six iconic Hispanic hits, blending them with tropical rhythms like salsa, bachata, and R&B.

Produced by Marcos Sánchez, the project draws inspiration from the tradition of Canary Island orchestras, which have long been known for turning international hits into danceable tracks. By updating this local tradition for a modern audience, St. Pedro is not only expanding his sound but also building a bridge to his fans, creating a set of songs that will complement his original music during live shows.

The tracklist—featuring songs by Álex Ubago, Juanes, Pablo Alborán, Alejandro Fernández, Christina Aguilera, and Camila—shows a clear desire to experiment. In his version of Me Dediqué a Perderte, St. Pedro pays tribute to the classic sound of Canary Island festivals, while his take on Pero Me Acuerdo de Ti highlights the connection between tropical music and R&B. Rounding out the EP are fresh versions of Sin Miedo A Nada, A Dios Le Pido, Solamente Tú, and Aléjate de Mí. Rather than relying on nostalgia, these tracks prove how flexible pop melodies can be when reimagined with Caribbean percussion and new arrangements.

This EP reflects a growing trend among young Spanish artists who are revisiting their formative influences—from early 2000s pop to rock—and blending them into the urban and tropical styles that dominate today’s charts. With Cancionero, St. Pedro proves he is an artist who can balance modern innovation with a deep respect for the musical legacy that shaped him.
