Spring-like Weather and Strong Winds Forecast for Canary Islands

Source: El Día

The Canary Islands are experiencing stable, spring-like weather today as trade winds bring mild temperatures and clear skies to most regions, despite some lingering cloud cover in the north.

Spring-like weather is settling into the Canary Islands this week, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).

For Thursday, May 21, temperatures are expected to rise slightly. Santa Cruz de Tenerife will reach 24°C, while the rest of the western islands will see highs between 17°C and 23°C.

Wind will be the most notable factor today. Moderate north and northeast winds are expected, particularly in higher areas. Gusts will be strongest on the southern slopes of Anaga, as well as the eastern and western tips of La Gomera, La Palma, and El Hierro, where the landscape will channel the airflow.

The sky will vary depending on the location. Northern coastal areas may start the day with persistent clouds and a chance of light, isolated rain, though these should clear up as the day goes on. Meanwhile, higher elevations and southern slopes will enjoy clear or mostly sunny skies, keeping with the stable weather typical for this time of year.

These conditions are driven by the trade winds, which regulate the islands' climate. They are currently influencing humidity levels in the north and keeping temperatures steady, with only a slight increase in overnight lows expected in higher areas.
