Speeding Driver Damages Five Parked Cars in Candelaria

A 20-year-old driver in Candelaria, Tenerife, caused a multi-car crash last Tuesday, damaging five parked vehicles and causing a fuel spill, with speeding and distraction suspected as primary factors.

Careless driving, likely due to speeding and possibly being distracted, appears to be the main reason for a recent car crash in Candelaria. The accident damaged five parked cars. Emergency services and local police had to respond, highlighting the dangers of driving negligently, even when alcohol or drugs aren't involved.

The incident happened last Tuesday afternoon, just before 5 PM, on Charco del Musgo street in the Las Caletillas area of Tenerife. A 20-year-old driver, in a Seat Ibiza, first hit a Citroën Berlingo. This crash broke the Berlingo's fuel tank, causing a spill that brought out the Tenerife Firefighters.

After the first collision, the young driver's car swerved to the other side of the road, hitting four more parked vehicles. Finally, the driver's car flipped over, stopping nine meters from the last impact. The way the car moved and how far it traveled after hitting other vehicles suggests it was going very fast for that road, which goes uphill at that point. Early findings suggest that besides speed, the driver might have been distracted by a device in the car.

Candelaria Local Police officers arrived to manage the scene, temporarily closing the road to keep everyone safe and allow emergency teams to work. The driver was tested for alcohol and drugs, and both tests came back negative. Firefighters from the Güímar Industrial Estate station contained the fuel spill and secured the area. Later, at the police's request, they helped right the Seat Ibiza so it could be towed away, allowing the street to reopen.

This accident is a reminder about road safety. It shows that things like driving too fast and being distracted can have serious consequences, not just for those involved but also for public safety and the environment, as seen with the fuel spill.
