Spanish Travelers Go Global and Local; Spain Stays World Favorite
Booking.com's "Travel Predictions 2026" study reveals Spanish travelers are increasingly exploring exotic international destinations while maintaining strong interest in domestic holidays, with Spain itself remaining a top global draw.
Spanish travelers are increasingly interested in exciting, faraway places like Vietnam, Indonesia, Morocco, and Brazil. But they also still love holidays closer to home, choosing spots within Spain such as El Médano, Cádiz, Seville, Calpe, and La Palma. This is all according to Booking.com's "Travel Predictions 2026" study.
Meanwhile, Spain itself continues to be a top choice for travelers worldwide. Places like El Médano in Tenerife, Calpe on the Costa Blanca, and Pamplona are particularly popular.
The Booking.com report highlights that Spanish holidaymakers are venturing further afield, drawn to exotic locations that offer a mix of nature, culture, and genuine experiences.
Looking at global trends, Malaysia is the most popular destination, followed by Colombia, Brazil, and Argentina. These countries are loved for their rich wildlife, commitment to sustainability, and unique, life-changing trips. In Asia, Saudi Arabia is also climbing the ranks, thanks to its historical sites and the growing popularity of the Red Sea.
South Africa remains a captivating choice in Africa, known for its diverse landscapes. France is the only European country to make this list. Rounding out the top 10 are Colombia, Saint Lucia, and Chile. This shows a clear move towards more thoughtful and varied tourism that connects people with local culture and nature.
Even with the growing interest in far-flung places, Spanish travelers still find plenty to explore and enjoy within their own country. The desire to rediscover Spain's rich culture, beautiful nature, and delicious food keeps domestic travel very popular.
Favorite spots include Benaocaz, known for its Andalusian charm; Calpe, beautifully set between the sea and mountains; Puerto Naos in La Palma, which is becoming a popular natural and eco-friendly getaway; and Cudillero, one of Asturias' most scenic villages, perfect for those wanting to switch off and enjoy unspoiled nature.
Spain also continues to be a highly valued destination for international visitors. British travelers, for example, love El Médano in Tenerife, while Belgians often choose Calpe on the Costa Blanca.
Interestingly, South Korea has named Pamplona as one of Spain's most appealing destinations for 2026. This shows how Spain successfully blends tradition with new ideas and a good quality of life, offering a diverse and ever-changing experience for tourists.
