Spanish Police Rescue Man from TF-13 Highway Viaduct
Spanish National Police officers successfully rescued a man from a viaduct on the TF-13 highway after using mediation strategies to prevent a potential fall.
National Police officers recently prevented a tragedy on the TF-13 highway, highlighting the vital importance of rapid coordination during crises. The officers successfully rescued a man who was in a highly vulnerable state on a local viaduct, preventing a fall from a height of approximately 30 meters.
The operation began after a woman in Tejina alerted authorities that she had received messages from her partner expressing suicidal intent. Police immediately launched a search, working with the man’s friends and family to pinpoint his location along the highway and the surrounding ravine.
With the help of information from the public, officers found the man wedged between a bridge support and the slope of the ravine. To de-escalate the situation, the officers used a mediation strategy, bringing in someone close to the man to help calm him. This approach allowed the officers to get close enough to safely secure him before he could come to harm. Following the rescue, he was taken to the Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria Hospital for specialized care.
This incident underscores the importance of specialized training for security forces when dealing with mental health crises. In Spain, emergency protocols are increasingly focused on mediation and immediate psychological support—a shift that proved essential in saving this man’s life on the TF-13.
