Spanish Maritime Rescue Evacuates Ill Crew Member From Cruise Ship Off Tenerife
Spanish emergency services successfully evacuated an ill crew member from the cruise ship Mein Schiff Relax to a Tenerife hospital on Friday night.
Spanish emergency services successfully evacuated a crew member from the cruise ship Mein Schiff Relax on Friday night, showing how well their sea and health emergency plans work.
The ship, which had set sail from the Port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, needed outside help because one of its crew members became ill. Spain's maritime rescue agency, Salvamento Marítimo, confirmed they were called for urgent assistance.
The Port Authority of Santa Cruz de Tenerife reported the need for the transfer after the cruise ship's doctor checked the patient. In response, Salvamento Marítimo sent their vessel, the Salvamar Tenerife.
The Salvamar Tenerife went to the Mein Schiff Relax to pick up the crew member and bring them to the main port in Tenerife. An ambulance from the Canarian Emergency Service (SUC) was waiting at the port to take the patient to a hospital for specialized medical care.
