Spanish Lottery's Top Prizes Land in Canary Islands, Mainland Spain
The Spanish National Lottery draw on March 5 delivered significant financial boosts across Spain, particularly to the Canary Islands, with top prizes distributed in multiple locations including Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
Last Thursday, March 5, the Spanish National Lottery brought a financial boost to many parts of Spain, especially the Canary Islands. Information released shows that the two biggest prizes were sold in various places, with winners found in Tenerife and Gran Canaria.
The top prize, number 27188, was sold in lottery shops across twelve provinces. In the Canary Islands, tickets were bought in Santa Bárbara, a town within Icod de los Vinos in Tenerife. On mainland Spain, this prize was also won in Alicante, Almería, Badajoz, Barcelona, Cádiz, Cantabria, Girona, Jaén, Lleida, Madrid, and Seville.
The second prize, number 34703, also spread its winnings widely. In Tenerife, tickets were sold in Los Realejos. In Gran Canaria, winners came from Santa Lucía de Tirajana and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Beyond the islands, number 34703 was sold in Seville, Biscay, A Coruña, Cádiz, Barcelona, Álava, and Pontevedra.
These lottery draws, run by Loterías y Apuestas del Estado (SELAE), are a long-standing tradition in Spain. When prizes are spread out, it not only helps the winners directly but also contributes to public funds through taxes. National Lottery prizes over 40,000 euros are subject to tax. The frequent wins on the Canary Islands highlight how much island residents participate and the positive financial effect these draws have on their local economies.
