The Royal Spanish Swimming Federation has cancelled the Spanish Junior and Senior Artistic Swimming Championship in Puerto de la Cruz due to severe weather conditions and the activation of emergency safety protocols in Tenerife.

Unsettled weather in the Canary Islands has forced the cancellation of the Spanish Junior and Senior Artistic Swimming Championship. The event was due to take place in Puerto de la Cruz from March 20 to 22, but the Royal Spanish Swimming Federation (RFEN Aquatics) has officially called it off.

The decision follows the activation of the Tenerife Island Emergency Plan (PEIN) after a weather alert was issued this past Tuesday. The Tenerife Aquatic Sports Center (CDAT) closed its facilities on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. to comply with safety measures. These closures are expected to remain in place for the coming days, depending on how the weather develops and local safety protocols.

While the cancellation is a significant setback for the athletes, clubs, and organizers, the safety of participants and staff remains the priority. Under current regulations, local emergency plans take precedence over sports schedules. RFEN Aquatics intends to reschedule the competition at the same venue once weather conditions improve and the facility reopens.
