Spain’s 27th Film Festival Set for October 2026
The 27th edition of Spain's national film festival has been officially scheduled for October 19–22, 2026, with organizers aiming to boost theater attendance through a collaborative industry initiative.
The dates for the 27th edition of the Film Festival have been officially confirmed. According to an agreement published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) this Tuesday, the event will take place across Spain from October 19 to 22, 2026.
The initiative is a joint effort between the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), the Federation of Cinemas of Spain (FECE), and the Federation of Film Distributors (Fedicine). Since the festival began in 2009, its goal has been to encourage moviegoers to return to theaters and build a lasting habit of watching films on the big screen. To support this, the ICAA has pledged up to 18,000 euros, while FECE and Fedicine will each contribute 20,000 euros toward logistics and promotion.
Although the dates are set well in advance, the official announcement leaves several key questions unanswered. Details regarding ticket prices, how to access the promotion, whether registration will be required, and which specific cinemas will participate across the country—including the Canary Islands—have yet to be confirmed. FECE will be responsible for coordinating with theaters, while Fedicine will manage the advertising and communication strategy.
The festival is returning due to the success of previous years, which proved effective in boosting box office numbers. However, because the practical details of the event are still being finalized, the public will have to wait for further announcements from the organizers to learn how the promotion will work in practice. For now, the BOE publication establishes the official budget and timeline, but the specific experience for moviegoers in October 2026 remains to be seen.
