Spain Relaunches €53.9 Million Tender to Complete Granadilla Port Dock
The Spanish Ministry of Transport has relaunched the tender for the 53.9 million euro expansion of the Ribera dock at the port of Granadilla de Abona to boost Tenerife's cargo and logistics capacity.
The Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has relaunched the tender to complete the Ribera dock at the port of Granadilla de Abona, a key project for southern Tenerife. The previous attempt to find a contractor failed last April, prompting the government to increase the budget to 53.9 million euros to attract construction firms.
This project is a vital part of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Port Authority’s 2025-2029 investment plan. It aims to make the facility fully operational by adding 543.3 meters to the existing dock, bringing the total length to 1,045 meters. The construction will involve installing 11 reinforced concrete caissons at a depth of 18 meters.
As the newest port in the national network, Granadilla is designed to handle large vessels that require deep water and significant logistics space. It serves as an essential partner to the capital’s port, boosting the island's cargo and transport capacity. The project is supported by European ERDF funds for 2021-2027, highlighting its importance to regional connectivity.
This work is part of a larger investment strategy for the Canary Islands. The "Horizon 2030" plan will inject over 600 million euros into state ports across the islands over the next five years. For Tenerife specifically, more than 250 million euros has been earmarked, with 175 million dedicated to expanding port capacity, 47.5 million to sustainability, and over 20 million to better integrating port areas with their surrounding urban environments.
