Spain Box Office: 8% Viewer Drop in 2025, €453M Revenue
Spanish cinemas in 2025 saw an 8% drop to 65 million viewers, generating 453 million euros in ticket sales, with "Padre no hay más que uno 5" leading Spanish films and "Avatar: Fire and Ash" being the biggest premiere.
In 2025, Spanish cinemas saw 65 million viewers, an 8% drop from the year before. Despite this, films brought in 453 million euros in total ticket sales, according to an annual analysis by Comscore. The top foreign film was "Lilo & Stitch," while "Padre no hay más que uno 5" was the highest-earning Spanish movie.
Ticket sales throughout the year were "irregular." The first six months showed a positive trend, with a 3% increase compared to 2024. However, the second half of the year is expected to end with a provisional 16% decrease, largely due to poor results in October (-28%) and November (-31%). These two months performed much worse than they usually do for the overall box office.
In contrast to these dips, the busiest week for cinemas was from May 30 to June 5, when 2.08 million people went to see a film. The single busiest day was July 2, with 554,244 spectators.
The biggest film premiere of the year was "Avatar: Fire and Ash," the third movie in James Cameron's saga. It opened on December 19 and made 6.2 million euros on its first weekend. The areas with the most cinema-goers were Madrid (21.5%), Barcelona (13.7%), Valencia (6.5%), Alicante (4.1%), Seville (3.7%), Malaga (3.7%), Murcia (3.5%), Biscay (2.5%), the Balearic Islands (2.5%), and Cadiz (2.3%).
Among Spanish films, Santiago Segura's family comedy "Padre no hay más que uno 5" (partly filmed in Gran Canaria) earned the most. It was followed by Alejandro Amenábar's "El cautivo," which tells the story of Miguel de Cervantes' time in Algiers, and "Los domingos," directed by Alauda Ruiz de Azúa, which won the Golden Shell at the San Sebastián Festival.
Overall, Spanish films held a 19% market share in 2025, the same as in 2024. They attracted 12 million viewers and generated 78 million euros in ticket sales. Action movies were the most successful genre.
