The Spanish Government has approved a 39.7 million euro tender for construction work to complete the Ribera dock at Granadilla port in Tenerife, aiming to make it a fully operational logistics hub.

The Spanish Government has recently approved a tender for construction work at Granadilla port in Tenerife. This is a crucial step towards making the port fully operational and strengthening its position as a key logistics hub in the Atlantic. The Council of Ministers announced that the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility can now begin hiring contractors for the work needed to complete and open the Ribera dock.

This project, budgeted at 39.7 million euros (excluding IGIC tax), will finish the Ribera dock. It involves building the remaining 543.3 meters to reach its full length of 1,045 meters. The construction will involve placing eleven reinforced concrete blocks, called caissons, each 48.25 meters long. These will be set 18 meters deep, with additional submerged concrete sections measuring 5.78 meters.

Granadilla port is Spain's newest "greenfield" port – meaning it was built on undeveloped land. It was designed to support and expand the operations of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife port. Its design allows it to handle large ships that sit deep in the water and to host major logistics operations. It also connects directly with a nearby industrial zone. These features highlight its important role for Atlantic shipping and for boosting the island's economy.

This work is part of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Port Authority's Investment Plan for 2025-2029, which was agreed with Spain's national ports body (Puertos del Estado). European FEDER funds from 2021-2027 are partly covering the cost. Across the Canary Islands, the national port system plans to invest over 600 million euros between 2025 and 2029. The goal is to make these ports more competitive and help them grow. Of this total, 255 million euros will go specifically to ports managed by the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Port Authority. Granadilla port is a top priority project within this plan.
