Spain Approves €262.8M Five-Year Plan for Security Facilities
The government has approved a five-year, €262.8 million plan to fast-track 130 projects for improving police stations and Civil Guard barracks across Spain from 2025 to 2029.
The government has approved a five-year plan (2025-2029) to improve state security buildings. This plan identifies 130 projects at police stations and Civil Guard barracks as being in the public interest, with a total budget of 262.8 million euros. These projects include various facilities in Tenerife, Almería, Cádiz, Malaga, and Seville.
Officials announced on Tuesday that these are projects for existing police facilities that were already planned. By declaring them of public interest, their development will now be fast-tracked.
The Secretary of State for Security will fund 19 projects from its own budget, totaling 44.2 million euros. These include building new police stations in Alcantarilla (Murcia) and Alcázar de San Juan (Ciudad Real), and new Civil Guard barracks in Los Yébenes (Toledo) and Santanyí (Mallorca).
The National Police's General Directorate will carry out 54 projects, costing 103.7 million euros. These involve building new police stations in Roquetas de Mar and Almería city, Marín (Pontevedra), Valdebebas and Vicálvaro (Madrid), Jaca (Huesca), and Medina del Campo (Valladolid). They will also renovate the asylum room at Adolfo Suárez-Madrid-Barajas airport. This renovation falls under the European Pact on Migration and Asylum, which will cover 90 percent of its cost.
The Civil Guard's General Directorate will manage 51 projects, using 89.7 million euros from its own budget. These include building new barracks in Vera (Almería), Villarrobledo (Albacete), Benavente (Zamora), Algeciras (Cádiz), Calahorra (La Rioja), Cáceres, Icod de los Vinos (Tenerife), Alhaurín de la Torre and Cártama (Málaga). A new ammunition depot will also be built in Valdemoro (Madrid).
Finally, Giese, the State Security Infrastructure and Equipment Management body (which operates independently under the Secretary of State for Security), will undertake six projects worth over 25.1 million euros. These include new National Police facilities in Jaca (Huesca) and Seville's Nervión district, along with new Civil Guard barracks in Mijas, Málaga city, and Miguelturra (Ciudad Real).
