Tenerife South Airport celebrated World Tourism Day with a fair of local culture, food, and crafts to highlight the importance of sustainable tourism.

Yesterday, Tenerife South Airport celebrated World Tourism Day. A real celebration with local culture, food, and crafts from southern towns was organized for arriving passengers.

The event was organized by CIT Sur, with the assistance of AENA. The main idea was to show how tourism can be beneficial and not harm nature.

Right at the airport, in the arrival area, guests could visit a small fair. There were tastings, music, people in national costumes, all from the southern region. You could try handmade cheeses, local wine, fresh fruits, almonds, and various sweets.

"Tourism is not just about looking," says Rafael Dolado, head of CIT Sur. "It's also about feeling and discovering something new."

He added that the airport is the "first door to the island," so it is important to "show here the best of our cuisine, our crafts, and our hospitality."

According to Dolado, they want tourism to be beneficial, not harm nature, support local farmers, and small markets. Efraín Medina Hernández, advisor on employment, education, and youth, also emphasized that it is important to preserve their culture so that tourists can see the true identity of the locals.

The celebration was attended by representatives of tourist organizations from southern cities. Eudita Mendoza Navarro, tourism advisor from Granadilla de Abona, emphasized that working together helps develop tourism in the region. Luz Goretti Gorrín Ramos (Santiago del Teide), Joaquín Cabrera Tejera (Vilaflor de Chasna), and Laura Paiz Acosta (San Miguel de Abona) also agreed that cooperation between organizations is key to showing tourists the real South, which cares about the future.
