Southeast Tenerife is set to receive a new €4.2 million farmers' market in Los Roques de Fasnia, with the bidding process underway, to promote direct sales of local produce and boost the regional economy.

Southeast Tenerife is set to see a major upgrade in its support for the farming community. Plans are now in motion for a new farmers' market in Los Roques de Fasnia, with the bidding process officially underway. This project comes with a budget of over 4.2 million euros. The goal is to encourage direct sales of local produce and promote a 'farm-to-table' approach. Funding for the market is a joint effort: the Cabildo de Tenerife is providing 3,167,487 euros over two years, while the Government of the Canary Islands is contributing 1,100,000 euros.

The market's location is a big advantage, situated right by the TF-1 highway. This makes it easy to get to with minimal detours and puts it close to other useful services nearby. The building itself will have five levels: two above ground and three below. Construction is expected to take about eighteen months and could start as early as next summer.

On the ground floor, visitors will find the distribution area, market entrance, a tasting room, and other services. The Cabildo's regional agricultural office will be on the upper floor. The main farmers' market, designed for about forty stalls, will be on the first underground level. This area will be visually connected to the floor above and will include public parking and a children's play area. It will also have its own separate entrance from outside, allowing people to go directly to the stalls from the car park or sidewalk. The two lowest underground floors will mainly be used for storage, serving both the market and the agricultural office.

Fasnia's mayor, Luis Javier González, believes this new facility has the potential to become a leading market on the island, much like those in Tegueste, Tacoronte, or La Matanza, thanks to its prime location and features. Valentín González, the Cabildo's Councillor for the Primary Sector, added that this joint effort aims to boost the local economy, highlight the quality of local produce, and bring new life to the Southeast region.
