Sonora 2026 Expands Canarian Music Talent Global Reach
The Sonora 2026 platform, fostering new musical talent in the Canary Islands, is expanding its regional reach with new festival partnerships in La Palma and La Gomera, while gaining international visibility through a collaboration with Womex GC 2026.
The Sonora 2026 platform, which aims to promote new musical talent in the Canary Islands, is expanding its reach both regionally and internationally. The competition, designed to award solo artists and bands from the archipelago, is creating more opportunities for live performances at major festivals and establishing direct connections with the global professional music circuit.
A significant new development is the program's international partnership with Womex GC 2026. This international professional gathering for world music, which will be held in Gran Canaria from October 22 to 26, will feature a performance by one of Sonora's finalist bands. This collaboration represents a major step forward for the visibility and professional development of Canarian artists on a globally relevant stage.
Regionally, the initiative is extending its network of "Sonora Passports" by including La Palma and La Gomera. Festivalito La Palma, known for its multidisciplinary approach to film, music, and performing arts, and the Festival Atlántico Sonoro de La Gomera, which stands out for its blend of contemporary creation with cultural roots and traditional music in Vallehermoso, are now joining the list. These new passports complement those already existing at Sonidos Líquidos (Lanzarote), Phe Festival (Tenerife), Festival Boreal (Tenerife), HeroFest (El Hierro), and the recently announced one for La Graciosa, consolidating a network that covers almost the entire archipelago.
The Sonora Passports mechanism allows organizers of various regional and national festivals to act as judges and scouts at the Sonora final. From among the ten finalists, each festival freely selects an artist or band to perform at its respective edition throughout the year. This offers concrete performance opportunities and contact with the public and the industry.
The call for Sonora 2026 remains open until February 28 for artists and bands residing in the Canary Islands. They can submit their musical projects without restrictions on format or style, covering everything from pop and rock to urban sounds, world music, folk, jazz, contemporary, experimental, or electronic music. This initiative underscores the commitment to fostering and professionalizing emerging musical talent in the Canary Islands.
