Solo Sailor Rescued After Boat Breaks Down Off Tenerife Coast
Tenerife emergency services successfully rescued a solo sailor after their boat suffered a mechanical failure near El Palmar and required a tow to the port of Los Cristianos.
Emergency services in Tenerife successfully rescued a solo sailor this week after their five-meter boat broke down at sea.
The incident occurred near El Palmar, on the island’s southern coast. The sailor reported a mechanical failure that left the vessel unable to move. Because of the area’s strong currents, the boat risked being swept out into open water, prompting the sailor to call for help. The Tenerife Maritime Rescue Coordination Center quickly responded to the distress signal.
The rescue vessel Salvamar Alpheratz was dispatched to the scene. Once they located the boat, the crew secured it with a tow line and safely brought it back to the port of Los Cristianos. No injuries were reported.
This rescue serves as a reminder of the importance of maritime safety protocols. In waters where small boat traffic is high, quick coordination between rescue teams and control centers is vital to ensure that minor mechanical issues do not turn into dangerous emergencies.
