Social Media Spotlight Drives Resurgence of Canary Islands Roadside Dining
Bocaditos Chafira, a Tenerife food truck, has gained viral popularity for its massive, kilogram-sized sandwiches that have turned a roadside industrial spot into a local dining destination.
Roadside dining in the Canary Islands is enjoying a resurgence, thanks to social media creators who are shining a light on hidden gems that many drivers often overlook. One such spot, a food truck called Bocaditos Chafira in Oroteanda Baja, Tenerife, has become a local favorite for its massive, complex sandwiches.
Located at plot 211 on Calle Nuestra Señora de Candelaria, the stand boasts an impressive 4.9-star rating on Google. It has built a loyal following by serving oversized portions, with some sandwiches weighing up to a full kilogram. Their signature item, the "Frankenstein," is a true test of endurance, packed with pork, beef, loin, bacon, egg, and onion.
Beyond these heavy-duty creations, the menu features more traditional options like the mixed sandwich—loaded with beef, pork, cheese, tomato, and red onion—as well as rotating specials like pork leg sandwiches and choripan. The stand is incredibly busy, often preparing up to 170 sandwiches a day, proving just how popular these hearty, industrial-area meals have become.
Bocaditos Chafira is open Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Saturdays from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. (closed Sundays). Given the sheer size of the food, most visitors agree that finishing a meal alone is a challenge, making it a go-to destination for anyone in the south of the island looking for a serious, filling meal.
