Snow Possible on Tenerife Peaks Tuesday
The Canary Islands face varied weather this Tuesday, January 13th, with snow on high-altitude Tenerife and heavy rain on Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.
Snow could return to Tenerife this Tuesday, January 13th. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) predicts snow at altitudes between 2,300 and 2,500 meters.
On Tenerife, Tuesday will be mostly cloudy. Light to moderate rain is expected in the north and southeast, while other areas will have cloudy periods with less chance of rain. Skies should clear up by the end of the day.
Temperatures on Tenerife will mostly stay the same. However, the highest temperatures on the northern slopes will drop slightly, and this drop will be more noticeable in the central peaks, where light frost is possible. Winds will be light to moderate from the northwest, changing to northerly and getting stronger in the afternoon. Expect strong gusts on the southeast and southwest slopes and mountain tops, with some occasional very strong gusts.
Looking at the wider forecast for all the Canary Islands, Aemet says the biggest weather event will be on Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. These islands can expect heavy rain, possibly with thunderstorms.
The western islands will be cloudy, with a chance of light to moderate rain in the north. Other parts of these islands will have cloudy spells. The eastern islands will start partly cloudy or clear, then become cloudier with light to moderate rain during the middle of the day. The rain could be strong on Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
Across the archipelago, maximum temperatures will stay the same or drop slightly inland. Minimum temperatures will change very little. Winds will be light to moderate from the northwest, becoming northerly and stronger in the afternoon. Strong gusts are expected on the mountain tops and the western and eastern slopes of the mountainous islands, with some occasional very strong gusts.
