In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, cleaning service workers have received smart bracelets to measure body temperature and heart rate while working in order to prevent overheating.
In the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a joint project has been launched by the city authorities and the concessionaire company Valoriza Servicios Medioambientales SA for waste removal. This project aims to assess the risk of overheating for working personnel during their work activities in real-time.
Five cleaning service employees have received smart bracelets to participate in the project. They will perform their duties in different shifts and work categories. The bracelets allow measuring body temperature, pulse, and environmental parameters to detect risk situations associated with high temperatures. Testing of this technology will be conducted for three months.
The Mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, José Manuel Bermúdez, explained that this project is an important step in the city's strategy to protect workers from the negative effects of climate change. He believes that these bracelets will improve the safety of workers, especially in the summer when temperatures can be extremely high.
The First Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Public Services of the city, Carlos Tarife, announced that the bracelets are ready for use, which will allow the project to start quickly. If the results are successful, there are plans to expand the use of these bracelets to other service teams.
The project participants include drivers, manual and mechanical cleaning workers, and garbage collection operators aged 29 to 65, working both in the morning and evening.
This action is part of the efforts of the municipality and Valoriza Servicios Medioambientales SA to modernize public services, digitize processes, and improve the working conditions of employees.
