Road safety on Tenerife’s secondary roads is back in the spotlight following a serious accident in La Matanza de Acentejo on Tuesday, July 28, 2026. A collision between a public bus and a private car on the TF-217 road has once again highlighted the risks associated with the island's smaller routes.

The crash occurred just before 10:00 a.m. at kilometer marker 3. Emergency services (CECOES 1-1-2) coordinated a large-scale response, with Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) teams assessing those involved. Six people were affected in total, five of whom were taken to local hospitals for further treatment.

The Civil Guard and Local Police managed the scene, directing traffic and beginning an investigation into how the crash happened. Meanwhile, the Road Maintenance Service cleared debris from the area to ensure the road was safe for travel.

This incident underscores the challenges of navigating Tenerife's secondary road network, where the terrain and road layout can increase the severity of accidents. Authorities are now investigating the cause of the crash to determine if human error or other factors were responsible.
