Shakira and Burna Boy to Headline 2026 World Cup Soundtrack
Shakira and Burna Boy have collaborated on the 2026 World Cup anthem "Dai Dai," a multilingual track designed to support the FIFA Education Fund ahead of the tournament's inaugural halftime show.
Excitement is building for the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Mexico, the United States, and Canada. As reports have confirmed, the tournament's soundtrack will feature Shakira, who has teamed up with Nigerian artist Burna Boy for the song "Dai Dai."
Shakira is no stranger to the World Cup, having been a staple of tournament anthems since South Africa 2010. However, her new track has sparked an unexpected viral trend in Spain. Social media users, including Tenerife-based creator Darío López, noticed that a specific verse sounds remarkably like the name of the town Icod de los Vinos. Despite the local buzz in the Canary Islands, the lyric is actually the Japanese word "ikou," which translates to "let's go."
This choice is part of a deliberate creative strategy: the song includes the phrase "let's go" in five different languages—Spanish, English, French, Italian, and Japanese—to reflect the global nature of the tournament. Beyond the music, the project has a charitable mission, with proceeds supporting educational and sports programs for children through the FIFA Education Fund.
The 2026 tournament will also be a landmark event for FIFA, as it will feature a halftime show during the final on July 19. By adopting a format similar to the Super Bowl, FIFA hopes to boost the spectacle’s profile and strengthen its emotional connection with fans worldwide. By partnering with iconic artists like Shakira, the organization aims to create a lasting musical legacy for the sport.
