On Tenerife, seven tourists will be fined for illegally swimming with whales, violating environmental regulations and facing fines of up to €60,000.

On Tenerife, seven tourists got into trouble. They decided to swim with whales, but this turned out to be a serious violation of environmental regulations.

It all happened in mid-September. A video of people swimming near cetaceans quickly spread on social media.

The police found out that the tourists had rented a boat and were jumping into the water from it.

It turned out that swimming with whales is prohibited. There is a special law that protects these animals. It prohibits approaching them so as not to disturb or endanger them.

The tourists pleaded that they were unaware of these rules. But ignorance of the law does not absolve one of responsibility. Now they face a hefty fine – in serious cases, it can reach over 60,000 euros.

The police remind that it is important to respect marine life, especially in the Canary Islands, where many whales live. Such irresponsible acts can harm both the animals and the swimmers themselves.
