Septeto Santiaguero to Bring Traditional Cuban Sounds to La Laguna on September 5
The Latin Grammy-winning Septeto Santiaguero will bring their modern interpretation of traditional Cuban music to the Teatro Leal in La Laguna on September 5th.
Traditional Cuban music is far from a relic of the past; it remains alive and evolving thanks to groups that successfully blend tradition with a modern touch. The Septeto Santiaguero is a perfect example of this, and they are set to bring the sounds of son and its related genres to the Teatro Leal in La Laguna on September 5th at 8:00 p.m.
For three decades, the group has shown how to honor cultural roots while achieving widespread commercial success. Led by tres player Fernando Dewar, the ensemble formed in 1995 at the famous Casa de la Trova in Santiago. Since then, they have grown far beyond their local roots, bridging generations by collaborating with legendary artists like Rubén Blades, Oscar D’León, Omara Portuondo, and Eliades Ochoa.
The Septeto Santiaguero’s international reputation is backed by eleven albums and significant recognition from the Latin Recording Academy. They have won two Latin Grammys for Best Traditional Tropical Album—first in 2015 for their tribute to Los Compadres, and again in 2018 for their work on Cuban classics. They continued this mission in 2022 with the album Y sigo pa’lante, which earned a Latin Grammy nomination and featured collaborations with stars like Alain Pérez and Mayito Rivera, while incorporating the unique rhythms of Guantánamo’s Changüí and the Conga de Los Hoyos.
