The Latin Grammy-winning Septeto Santiaguero will perform at Tenerife's Teatro Leal on September 5th as part of their 30th-anniversary tour celebrating the evolution of traditional Cuban music.

Traditional Cuban music is far from a relic of the past; it remains vibrant and relevant, thanks to groups that successfully blend historical tradition with a modern sound. The Septeto Santiaguero, one of the most celebrated names in son music, will perform at the Teatro Leal in La Laguna, Tenerife, on September 5th—a performance that highlights the genre’s enduring international appeal.

Led by tres player Fernando Dewar since 1995, the group has grown far beyond its roots in Santiago de Cuba. Over the last three decades, they have bridged the gap between the legendary Casa de la Trova and the global stage, collaborating with icons like Rubén Blades, Omara Portuondo, and Eliades Ochoa. Their dedication to preserving and evolving Cuban music has earned them significant industry recognition, including two Latin Grammy awards—one in 2015 for their tribute to Los Compadres and another in 2018 for their fresh take on Cuban classics—along with a 2023 nomination for their album Y sigo pa’lante.

The La Laguna concert offers a rare chance to see a group that is equally at home at the Grammy Awards and within the traditional musical institutions of eastern Cuba, such as the Conga de Los Hoyos. It is a unique opportunity to witness how son, guaracha, and bolero can adapt to modern stages while staying true to their roots. This performance is part of a tour celebrating the group’s 30th anniversary, reinforcing their status as ambassadors of a musical heritage that continues to evolve. Tickets are available now through the theater’s usual booking channels.
